Rolled Watercolour Flowers Tutorial

Image
Hello, today I wanted to write a bit of a tutorial on the rolled watercolour flowers I have been making, as I got a few requests on how they were made. Quite simple and a nice way to brighten up your card! To make them you will need some thin watercolour card, a rolled rose die, I used one from a magazine and one from a craft work cards wreath set, purchased from craftstash. Then you will need something to colour them with, I used watercolours and a paintbrush. Then a pair of tweezer to roll and shape them. Cut the flowers using your dies, I could do two at a time with my watercolour card. Then I added the colour as is shown below. Allow them to dry until they are just slightly damp. It isn't completely necessary to do this step, but I used my flower shaping tool and a foam mat to curl each of the petals upwards, by pressing down on each petal on the back of the coloured side. Then use your tweezers to curl the flowers, starting from the outside of the die c...

Galaxy Peonies!

Image
Today I am sharing a galaxy themed card, inspired by some beautiful multi-toned stamped flowers that I had seen on Instagram. I recently bought a galaxy themed paper pad from The Works, so decided that rather than paint the flowers by hand I would stamp and emboss them onto the paper pad itself! The stamp set is peony bloom by tonic studios. After this I added a little dimension to the flowers with some mica and metallic watercolours and some shading with coloured pencils. I added a flower centre using Dovecraft pearl effects in gold to the largest flower. For the leaves I used a Sizzix die set called floral layers cut in a shade of gold mirror card and a matt metallic gold card. The background was done with splatters of gold mica and metallic watercolours on black card. I went around the edge with my gold ink pad.  Finally the sentiment was partly cut out of purple mirror card with some small Trimcraft alphabet dies, and the second part was printed out on m...

One stamp, 4 different mediums.

Do you ever buy a stamp and wonder how you can get more use out of them? When I buy a stamp I try and think of different ways I can use it to create lots of different designs, so that I know I will get good value out of it.  Today I am sharing a little project I set myself to really stretch the ways I can colour a flower stamp.  I decided to colour one stamp with 4 different colouring mediums, to explore how they can create different looks with the same base image. I stamped the image with the same metro grey nuvo hybrid ink on the most optimum card stock I had for each medium. What is your favourite colouring medium?  Surprisingly I think my favourite turned out to be the one coloured with alcohol markers! I've been trying to improve my colouring with them over the past few months and I'm really enjoying colouring with them now. I love the control I have with them in getting all the little details in the stamp. I really like how bright the card turned out bec...
